Welcome to the Computing Department
Welcome to the Computing Department where we are committed to developing all our pupils to become confident and enthusiastic programmers across a number of languages and to develop the computational thinking skills demanded of Computer Scientists. We also incorporate high level digital literacy skills embedded across our curriculum from using electronic hyperlinked indexes for all written work to emailing homework and understanding how to stay safe. Finally, we are committed to enthusing all our students to be creative with their IT skills.
Students study computing for 1 hour per week in years 7, 8 and 9 as well as an additional 18 hours of programming during the Tech carousel once per year. Details of the units of study are covered in the KS3 area of this website.
In addition, we are delighted to offer a range of enrichment activities from programming with Raspberry Pi computers to using Gemma microcontrollers to create exciting wearable tech. We also offer a range of help and homework sessions for all pupils. (For further details see the extra-curricular section of this website)
At KS4 students currently have the option of taking ICT GCSE, Computing GCSE or a BTEC in Information and Creative Technology. (For further details see the appropriate KS4 area of this website).
