OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD 2017

Many thanks in advance of your support!

2nd October – 10th November

This week sees the assembly launch of the 2017 ‘Shoebox’ appeal

Please read on for more information about how you can be part of this.

Shoeboxes are an excellent opportunity

for children to show care for other children.

Simple gifts, such as soap, pencils, a small toy and sweets tell a child

that someone somewhere cares enough to make this small gesture to someone they may never meet.

This year as we re-launch our Shoebox appeal we are asking each child to bring in one small gift. The list below are suggestions of what gifts are suitable.

GIFT SUGGESTIONS

  • TOYS: Include items that children will love such as dolls, toy trucks, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, skipping ropes, balls,

  • SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, colouring and picture books, sticker sheets

  • HYGIENE ITEMS: Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, comb, flannel, etc.

  • OTHER: Baseball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewellery, solar watches, windup torches, scarf & gloves, wrapped sweets (Best Before Date of at least March the following year).

DO NOT INCLUDE Used or damaged items, war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures, chocolate or food, liquids or lotions, medicines, handmade or knitted stuffed toys, playing cards of the 4-suit variety, breakable items such as glass containers, aerosol cans, clothing or items of a political, racial or religious nature.

All tutor groups have all been provided with a box in which to deposit the gifts – of course students can bring in more than one gift if they wish to.

Over the next few weeks the box will be emptied regularly and we will try and let you know if there are any items which we really are short of.

If students wish to make up a complete box if they come and see me I will give them a leaflet about it or they can follow the link below.

I also need helpers there is a list outside my room for students to sign – I need approx. 12 students who will collect gifts and shoeboxes for me. It will be mainly lunchtime and tutor times when I need them.

The last day for bringing in gifts is the end of the first week back after half term.

Many thanks again!

Mrs Loveday.
