Years 9 & 10
The MFL faculty runs an annual Educational Study Visit abroad to either Paris, France or Cologne, Germany on an alternating basis. The trip is open to all students in years 9 and 10 and takes place in the final week of the summer term in July. In previous years we have taken 120 students abroad, accompanied by staff from a range of different faculties across the school.
The trip provides a fantastic opportunity to use the target language for real purposes (ordering ice cream and buying presents for the family back home!) and experience the sights and culture of the country first hand. We stay in youth hostels and undertake daily sightseeing visits around the local area.
In France we have a boat trip along the Seine River, climb the Eiffel Tower, visit the stunning Palace of Versailles and the beautiful Sacre Coeur church, see the Mona Lisa in the Louvre museum, not to mention shopping and trying out some French cuisine before ending the trip with a full day at Euro Disney.
In Germany we enjoy a relaxing boat ride down the Rhine River, climb the cathedral in Cologne and experience the thrill of the Nurburgring Formula 1 racing circuit. Dusseldorf and Cologne are also great places to shop and try out the famous German sausages! The final day is spent at Phantasialand theme park (Germany's answer to Alton Towers!) Evenings are free to relax in the hostel.
The coach journey is long but judging by feedback from previous visits it's certainly worth it!
Years 9 - 10 (Usually)

Mr Rockley, Mrs Hunt and Miss Abbott took 22 students to Sorrento in Southern Italy in July 2014.
They travelled from Manchester airport on Monday morning and returend on Friday afternoon.
Over 5 days they experienced the Italian culture and took in many visits and new experiences.
These included a mozarella farm, an Italan cookery masterclass, an Olive and Lemon grove, an ice cream factory and a pizza making master class. They also had chance to visit the world archeological site of paestum.
Staying at a 3* hotel they had chance for a bit of "R 'n' R" too, and they certainly didn't go hungry!
