Bishop Rawstorne Church of England Academy

Uniform

Academy Dress

The aim is to be comfortable, economical, smart, and practical for daily school activities. All clothing must be named. Every student is expected to wear approved school dress. The uniform can be purchased from 'Favourites' in Croston - www.favouritesofcroston.co.uk / 01772 600 142

For Health & Safety reasons, no jewellery other than one stud in the lobe of each ear is allowed. A cross may be worn if tucked into a shirt. No make-up, nail-varnish or body piercing is allowed.

No extreme hairstyles or colourings should be worn. If parents are unsure, we strongly advise them to contact the Head of Upper / Lower School in the first instance. Any contravention of the school hair policy will necessitate parents being telephoned and students remaining in the inclusion room until the hairstyle is rectified.

Outdoor coats should be plain in navy blue or black only, no fur jackets, seartshirts, denim jackets, hooded tops, band jackets, track suit tops or any other 'fashion' coats are allowed as outdoor coats. Dark coloured scarves can be worn during inclement weather, but should not be worn inside the school buildings.

Personal Appearance

Uniform

Students are ambassadors of the school and, as such are expected to dress and behave in a way that reflects our high standards. The uniform should be smart with all items clearly marked. If students are unable to wear the uniform for any reason, the school must be notified in writing by the parents. Under no circumstances will we tolerate clothing which is not in line with our dress code. The highest standards of uniform should be adhered to on route to and from school.

Favourites of Croston offer parents a free alteration service for skirts if it is much too big on the waist. This will allow for a knee length fit in the taller girls.

Make-up and Body Piercing

For Health and Safety reasons no jewellery other than one plain stud in the lobe of  each ear is allowed. Absolutely no body-piercing is allowed. A cross may be worn if tucked into a shirt. No make-up, false tan, false nails or nail-varnish are allowed.

Hair

Students must ensure that hair is of one natural colour at all times. Hair should have no bright or extreme colourings. Long hair should be tied back off the face at all times (both boys and girls). No shavings, etchings or extreme styling will be tolerated and hair should be no shorter than a Grade 2.

It is our policy to maintain a high standard of dress. Students not wearing full uniform will be offered spare items from school if available. If not available, students will be placed in our inclusion area until the uniform is addressed.

The School will be the final arbiter regarding suitability of dress and appearance

New PE Kit Questions

1. Why is the school PE kit changing?

The PE kit is changing for a number of reasons.  Firstly, our current supplier Sportswear International has stopped producing the current PE kit.  Therefore, this created an opportunity to modernise and streamline the PE kit.  The kit is now suitable for boys and girls in regards to the indoor kit and shorts and this will hopefully save parents having to buy different garments for boys and girls.  The material used is also more modern and will dry quicker than the old kit.  The previous boys’ kit also had a strong element of white and this has now been replaced by navy colours.

After consultation with staff, students and Favourites of Croston the new kit will be purchased through Trutex and the brand of the kit will be AKOA.

2. What are the changes to the school PE kit?

The main changes are in colour and in design.

The boys’ kit is now red and navy in colour, namely shirt (indoor & outdoor), navy shorts and navy socks.

The girls’ kit is the same indoor shirt as the boys’.  The girls’ shorts remain navy but again are unisex.  The girls also have a navy fleece and the option of navy tracksuit trousers for outdoor weather.

3. Who will be affected by the change in school PE kit?

From September 2013, ONLY the new Year 7 intake will have to buy the kit.

The new kit will be phased in over a four year period. It is not expected that any student will have to wear the new PE kit from next year’s Year 8 to 11.

However, if parents would like their son/daughter wearing the new PE kit next year then you can pre-order the kit from Favourites of Croston by Friday 14 December 2012.

Both kits will be acceptable for the next four years from next years, year 8 onwards.

PLEASE NOTE: That the old kit cannot be re-ordered through Favourites of Croston from September 2013 as it will no longer be produced by Sportswear International.

4. Where do I buy the new school PE kit?

The school has worked very closely with Favourites of Croston throughout this process and the new PE kit will be available direct from the shop. Please click here for a link to the shop.
