20th September Miss Morris & Mr Rockley took 12 students from Years 8-11 to race the electric kit car they have been working on in STEM club. They are also in the process of building another car from scratch and hope to have this ready for next year.
Kit cars and non-cars race together and there is an overall winner but as the kit cars are restricted to being a certain weight they cannot go quite as fast as the others so are also judged in a separate division.
After race 1 we were in 3rd position but were just pipped to the post in the second race by another team beating our distance covered. So overall, we came 4th out of the 16 kit cars and 9th out of all 27 cars.
The students were all excellent, fully entering into the spirit of what ended up being quite a wet day. It was especially great to see some students who may not be the strongest in a classroom but put in a practical setting come alive. A special mention goes to David Spiby for being our team photographer and digital feedback technician who tracked our top speed to be 29.9mph.
